Halloween is a popular time for scary movies. So turn on the Jack-o-Lantern, clear away the spider webs and cuddle up for one of these good scary movies on Halloween.
There's nothing like a good scare on Halloween - or any other day, for that matter! For those who are planning to stay inside and away from the ghouls, ghosts and goblins that roam on Halloween night, take a trip to Blockbuster, get out the popcorn and cuddle up for a great scary movie because these five films are sure to give viewers enough fright for one night! ScreamScream (1996) is a film that's sure to startle and spook even repeat viewers. Directed by Wes Craven, starts off with the brutal death of two teens. Then, enter Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), a traumatized motherless teen who starts getting taunting calls from the killer. Sidney and her friends find themselves terrorized by a masked suspect who calls to quiz his victims before they're picked off. And as teen after teen is targeted by the masked mystery caller, Sidney and her friends begin to point fingers and they soon realize that no one is safe. Fans of Scream may also enjoy the other films in the trilogy, Scream 2 and Scream 3, though many regard the original film as the best. The ShiningThe Shining (1980) is a Stanley Kubrick classic starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall and Danny Lloyd. Based on the Steven King novel of the same title, The Shining is a film about a family that travels to an isolated and haunted hotel to work as the winter caretakers. Jack Torrance, played by Nicholson begins to have violent outbursts, while his young son Danny begins to have disturbing psychic visions (known as "shining") of past horrors that occurred in the haunted hotel. Meanwhile, Jack's wife Wendy, played by Duvall, is left to pick up the pieces as she watches her husband go mad. The RingThe Ring (2002) stars Naomi Watts as a young journalist named Rachel Keller who investigates a videotape that is said to be fatal to anyone who watches it - including Rachel's niece and three friends. Rachel has just days to sort it all out in order to save herself and her curious young son Aiden (David Dorfman), who views the videotape. She's led to the tape's creators, the Morgan family and she's faced with the task of figuring out young Samara Morgan's tale before it's too late. Notably, The Ring is one film with a sequel that most regard as being just as good, if not better than the original, so fans of The Ring may also enjoy The Ring 2. The Silence of the LambsThe Silence of the Lambs (1991) stars Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling, a young FBI gumshoe who's assigned to investigate the case of a psychopath who is skinning his victims. To solve the case, Starling is forced to turn to the manipulative, brilliant and psychotic Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) for insight on Buffalo Bill's crimes. The mind games begin as Clarice wanders deeper into the web of the imprisoned psychologist-turned-murderer, as she's in a race against the clock to crack the case. Fans of The Silence of the Lambs may enjoy the 2001 follow-up, Hannibal. The ExorcistThe Exorcist (1973) is an Oscar-winning film about a young girl named Regan who suddenly changes one day. Regan (Linda Blair) begins undergoing some mysterious changes that lead to outbursts and even changes in her physical appearance. Worried, Regan's mother calls in a priest who immediately realizes that Regan is possessed, so he calls in the reinforcements who set out to perform an exorcism before it's too late.
