Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas star in this story about two thieves who are forced to pull off a big heist. It's The Sting and Ocean's Eleven mixed together.

Morgan Freeman is Ripley, a veteran art thief who has been on the radar of the local police lieutenant for many years. He hears about a new young thief in town, Gabriel (Antonio Banderas) and tracks his movements to see if this younger man has what it takes to be Ripley’s partner in a big heist.

Stealing Two Faberge Imperial Eggs

The two meet up and soon their partnership is cemented. Their target is two previously-unknown Faberge Imperial Eggs. These eggs are kept in a heavily guarded safe in the diamond section of New York. First they have to successfully make their way through the maze of high-tech security devices before even getting to the vault itself. As they prepare how to do this, another problem arises.

Ripley’s goddaughter Alexandra (Rhada Mitchell), who has been having an affair with Gabriel, is taken hostage by a Russian crime boss. He knows the two are planning on stealing the eggs and make them a deal. They will steal the eggs, but after they will deliver them to this crime boss in exchange for Alexandra. Their only option is the eggs for the safe return of Alexandra.

Both men have a stake in this as they both have an attachment to Alexandra.

In the meantime, the two men realize they must continue with their plans in order to save her life. Plus they have the NYPD on their heels as the Lieutenant would love nothing more than to catch Ripley in the act and put him away once and for all.

A Twist Comes into the Story

While the story might be a little slow in the very beginning, it picks up pace and as the heist begins it is non-stop suspense. But from that point on it is nonstop twists as people are not really who they say they are.

This is a definite sting-type story, with character and plot twists coming out of the blue. Both Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas are great in their parts and make a good team.

With the Russian mob, the NYPD, and the Feds all mixed up in this one caper, it turns out to be a shocking surprise to everyone, including the viewers.

The movie was filmed on location in New York City and Bulgaria. It is also known by the title Thick as Thieves, but the DVD release is titled The Code. This is an interesting heist film with a twist.
