Liam Neeson's New Action Thriller Hits US Cinemas

Liam Neeson shows audiences exactly what martial arts moves to use if their daughter is ever taken by sex slave traders in the his hit action film Taken.

Taken starts slowly, setting up the characters just enough for the audience to care about them. Then all hell breaks loose as Bryan Mills, played by Liam Neeson, goes on the warpath in order to free his daughter Kim from Albanian sex slave traders in Paris. Bryan, an ex-CIA “Preventer,” uses the martial arts and gun fighting skills he learned in the field to track down his daughter, literally ripping apart anyone and anything that stands in his way.

Liam Neeson Utilizes Martial Arts and Combat Training in Taken

Taken is a non-stop wild ride through the streets of Paris. Bryan, unlike other famous Hollywood spies, acts quickly and realistically in all his encounters. Wasting not even a single moment, he questions people only long enough to get the next clue to his daughter’s whereabouts, kills his sources with brutal efficiency, and then moves on immediately, desperate to find his daughter before she disappears forever.

Bryan Mill’s, Liam Neeson's character, martial art and combat training was phenomenal. He is a trained “Preventer” and he does just that throughout the movie - prevents his enemies from ever being able to move against him once he’s done. The movie is excessively violent, more than the average spy film, and while many may argue that these were the mindless killings of a deranged ex-agent, the argument is that they are emotionaly justified by the intense emotions that affect a father whose beloved 17-year-old daughter has been taken by sex slave traders and pedophiles.

Taken Exposes the Real Dangers of Sex Slavery

The real and perverse nature of sex slavery is quickly and evocatively exposed throughout the film, but the real intent is not only to expose the disgusting nature of these heinous crimes, but also to answer the age old question “what would you do if your daughter was taken?” For Liam Neeson’s character, he would shoot, shock, stun, stab, threaten, torture, and hunt down anyone that has is in any way involved in his daughter’s disappearance.

Taken is a Realistic Look at the Darker Side of Tourism

Bryan is extremely methodical and quick on his feet, not to mention amazingly talented. From hiding under dead bodies to shoot out his opponents, to shooting his friend’s wife, he constantly does the unexpected in a believable way. His quick wit and skills make the movie fun and exciting, but every move he makes is smart and realistic.

To add to the credibility to the film, the famous Australian pop star Holly Valance makes an appearance as herself in the beginning of the film. Bryan is one of the security guards hired to protect her during travel to and from her concert. It is by protecting her from a would-be killer that viewers will first see Bryan Mills in action.

Taken is the Best Action Movie of the Year

There are also a few comical moments thrown in when time after time Bryan fools the French police department, making a mockery of their attempts to fool a retired agent who is all too familiar with their protocols and available technology.

Overall, fans of action films will be talking about this film and its innovations long after they’ve left the theatre. It is the best action film since the Dark Knight. Like Dark Knight, it contains little foul language, and no nudity, however Taken features violence that may be too excessive for young audiences.

The film delivers non-stop, mind-blowing action throughout, earning it a nine out of ten.
