Viola Davis Joins Gerard Butler and Jamie Foxx in the Crime Thriller

Production started in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in late January 2009 for the psychological action thriller Law Abiding Citizen and is expected to shoot around the city for approximately 50 days. Film locations may include City Hall in Philadelphia, the old Broadmeadows Prison, Holmesburg Prison, George Platt Memorial Bridge, the Navy Shipyard, and a warehouse stage in Southwest Philadelphia.
Law Abiding Citizen Has Wide Release on October 16
The movie stars Gerard Butler (300, P.S. I Love You) in a Film Department and Evil Twins-produced film. A theatrical release date has been set for October 16, 2009. Butler also co-produced the film along with Lucas Foster, Mark Gill, and Alan Siegel. Together, Butler and his manager, Siegel, comprise the production company Evil Twins, whose first project is Law Abiding Citizen.
The Plot of Law Abiding Citizen
In a script written by Kurt Wimmer (The Thomas Crown Affair) and Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption), the plot focuses on a brilliant sociopath (Butler), imprisoned for the murder of his wife’s killers. Unless he is released from prison, he threatens to get his revenge on the justice system and the penal system by executing a series of high-profile murders around the city from the confines of his jail cell.
Academy Award Winner Jamie Foxx Co-Stars
His vengeance grips the city of Philadelphia and the assistant district attorney who prosecuted the case (Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx of Ray and The Jamie Foxx Show), in which mercy was allowed to prevail over justice in the lawyer’s eagerness to strike a deal. Now a prosecuting attorney, he refuses to deal again, even as the city holds him responsible when innocent people fall victim to horrifying deaths – exactly as described by the prisoner. As the attorney loses friends and credibility, he realizes that his decisions might have created this vigilante killer and that he alone must stop the killing spree.
